A kitschy exploration in western embroidery.
Wild West originally started as an illustrative exploration inspired by the Vancouver based artist Nada Hayek. I was intrigued how they use very limited colors and simple linework in their work and wanted to combine that with an exploration into the delicate designs of western embroidery. As Hayek uses collage elements in their designs, I wanted to mix in my own go to collage approach of hand-drawn elements and photograph cut outs to create a sense of unity with the rest of my portfolio.
To elevate the composition further, I used After Effects to bring in visual texture and movements to breathe life into the piece while embracing the western landscape and the bright, campy, and kitschy elements of Hayek’s work.
